PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
Upon completion of this program, graduates will possess the skills and knowledge to become employed as entry level Home Health Aides, working for Home Health Agencies, and Hospice Care.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Students of the Home Health Aide program will learn to perform duties which include providing physical comfort and care for patients, nutrition, and other sustaining services for home health care recipients. The students will have 25 hours of lab to practice, demonstrate and perform procedures associated with bedside client care.

HHA 201 Foundations of Home Health Care (Course offered online-and on campus)

This course provides the program’s core knowledge base: the role of the
home health aide, patients’ rights and legal/ethical responsibilities (including HIPAA and
domestic violence recognition), professional communication and interpersonal skills, basic
anatomy/physiology concepts, infection control and OSHA/bloodborne pathogen awareness, safety and emergency procedures (including BLS/CPR principles), and
observation/charting/documentation practices. Students learn to identify changes in health, apply basic nutrition and dietary principles, understand weights and measures, and recognize common medical errors and reporting requirements.
HHA 202 Applied Care Planning and Special Populations (Course offered online-and on campus)

This course builds applied clinical judgment and care‑planning skills for common home care scenarios: rehabilitative nursing concepts (ROM, mobility, body mechanics, transfer techniques), geriatric care and psychosocial support (death and dying, dementia/cognitive impairment), assistance with self‑administration of medications (rights and safe assistance procedures), maintenance and household tasks relevant to home care, infection control in the home environment, and employability/computer skills for documentation and care coordination. Students integrate pathophysiology basics for common conditions, prioritize care needs, and prepare for safe delegation and teamwork with other healthcare providers.
HHA 203 Clinical Skills Laboratory (Course offered on campus)

This hands‑on lab course provides competency‑based practice and assessment of psychomotor and interpersonal skills required for entry‑level home health aides. Core skills include hand hygiene and PPE use; vital signs measurement and documentation; safe patient transfers, use of transfer devices and mobility assistance; feeding and oral care; basic wound care and dressing techniques; specimen collection basics; use of home equipment (wheelchair, shower chair, bed), infection control procedures, and simulated emergency response (CPR/AED practice). Emphasis is on demonstration to competency using objective checklists, SBAR communication, and realistic home‑setting simulations.
